Code of Ethics

At The Shala, our code of ethics reflects our commitment to practicing and teaching yoga with compassion and respect. Rooted in the ethical teachings of yoga, this code serves as a shared agreement for teachers, yoga therapists, students, care seekers, and
community members, by guiding how we show up, on and off the mat.

Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist Conduct

Competence:
We will teach yoga and provide yoga therapy only within the scope of our expertise and
training.


Professionalism:
We will conduct our teaching practice and provide yoga therapy by following and
applying the Yamas and Niyamas into our life and teaching practices.

Continuing Education

We will stay committed to ongoing learning and professional development to stay
current with the developments in the field of yoga and yoga therapy.

Student-Teacher/Yoga Therapist Relationship

Boundaries:
We will establish and maintain professional boundaries in the teacher, student, and care
seeker relationship.
Confidentiality:
We will maintain the privacy of student/care seeker information and keep records
secure.

Safety and Inclusivity

Non-Discrimination:
We will treat all students/care seekers with respect and compassion without
discrimination based on race, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or any other
characteristic.
Safety:
We will create and maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment within the
studio and in the space of practice.

Ethical Behavior

We will acknowledge and respect the diverse cultural, social, and religious
values of my students/care seekers and acknowledge the teachers and traditions
that inform our practice.
